This morning I Stumbled Upon (literally) a very interesting infographic that depicts the differences, sometimes rather minute, between the Right and the Left – the Republicans and the Democrats. As I scampered through to compare the views and stances listed in the infographic to those of my own, I wondered… just how many people out there are incredibly confused as to which side of the political spectrum they lie, if any!

So where are you on the “Red vs. Blue” scale? Do you agree 100% with the stances of one side or the other? Are you really far left or far right? I think many of us will find that we actually have a bit of a mix in us and lie somewhere in between, probably leaning one way or the other especially due to the bias that we grew up around. Lastly, I want to give credit where credit is deserved. David McCandless and Stefanie Posavec did an excellent job in graphically depicting the differences between Democrats and Republicans.

Understanding how difficult it is to gain an honest education on the politicians we elect, he decided to do something about it. Now, with CompareMyCandidates.com, you can achieve the “brutally honest” version of those you vote for well in advance of election day.

I think the right vs left spectrum is a bit simplistic. The best representation I’ve seen was the Nolan chart which has a right, left, center, up and down, corresponding to conservative, liberal, moderate/centrist, libertarian, totalitarian/Statist respectively. I think a lot of confusion arises from people not fully defining which side of the political chart/spectrum stands for what. I think that a lot of people don’t actually know what they are and where they stand, and so latch on to a couple of key points and then take that side to the extreme. What’s scary is that education in general is known to be dominated by so called liberals, and they’re influencing children and young adults throughout the most important periods of their lives in terms of developing the ability to cognitively reason and develop beliefs and values. For a side that wants tolerance, a level playing field, and equality, they sure have their finger on the scale. I Personally disagree with some of what that chart you posted depicts but I suppose it’s hard to try to categorize people into left or right when there are varying degrees of every issue on every side. I think the two party system has failed us, by polarizing every issue.

I am a Libertarian. I support a national flat sales tax instead of income tax. It seems to me that that would be fair, because everyone would be taxed equally. Which is kind of what the word “fair” means. But I keep seeing people freak out about tax breaks for rich people because they feel rich people aren’t paying there fair share. None of these people are upset about the fact that about one third of the people in this country pay no income tax at all. In fact we probably all know someone that actually got back more in “refunds” than they paid in in the first place. What really baffles me is that these people who pay no taxes at all are the first to say that rich people aren’t paying there fair share. For me it’s not a democrat vs republican thing, cause I think they are pretty much both out to run our country into the ground. I just don’t see how someone can say it’s OK for some people to pay no taxes, but others must pay 30 or even 40% of there income. Especially when the ones paying nothing are often the ones relying on state or federal aid to get by. How is this fair? Is this not the definition of class warfare? What happens when the greedy ass rich people get sick of paying high taxes and move to south america or something? Does no one pay taxes then? The whole system seems crazy to me.
